UF Health Central Emergency & Urgent Care is dedicated to providing prompt and compassionate care for a variety of health concerns, including sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Sexually transmitted diseases are infections that are passed from one person to another during sexual contact. They can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites and can affect both men and women of all ages. Some common types of STDs include Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Herpes, HPV (Human Papillomavirus), and HIV/AIDS.
Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are bacterial infections that can be cured with the right medication. Symptoms may include pain during sex, discharge, and a burning sensation when urinating.
Syphilis, also caused by bacteria, can be serious if left untreated but is curable with the correct treatment. Early symptoms may include sores, rashes, and fever.
Herpes and HPV are viral infections that can't be cured but their symptoms can be managed with medication. Herpes may cause painful sores, while HPV can lead to genital warts and is linked to certain types of cancer.
HIV/AIDS is a viral infection that attacks the immune system. While there's no cure, treatment can help manage symptoms and slow the progression of the disease.
